Plain summary: ShelfScanner is a beta AI tool — results are best-effort, not guaranteed. Affiliate links earn us a small commission (you pay the same price). Content on this site is for informational purposes only.

1. AI accuracy disclaimer

ShelfScanner uses artificial intelligence (specifically, Anthropic's Claude AI model) to identify book titles and authors from video or photograph input. By using the Service, you acknowledge and agree that:

  • AI book detection is not perfect. The system may misread spines, skip books, or — in rare cases — return plausible-sounding but inaccurate results ("AI hallucinations").
  • Accuracy is affected by lighting conditions, camera angle, spine width, font style, wear on the book cover, and the quality of your device's camera.
  • ShelfScanner results should be treated as a helpful first draft of your book list, not as a definitive cataloguing record.
  • We do not guarantee that every book on your shelf will be detected, or that every detected entry is accurate.
  • You should not rely on ShelfScanner as the sole or authoritative record of your book collection for insurance claims, estate documentation, resale appraisals, library archiving, or any legally significant purpose.

We are continuously working to improve detection accuracy. If you encounter a persistent error, please report it to marismacabuhay@metathriving2dmax.site.

2. Affiliate disclosure (FTC compliant)

ShelfScanner participates in affiliate advertising programmes. This means we may earn a commission when you click certain links on this site and make a qualifying purchase — at no additional cost to you.

Specifically:

  • Amazon Associates: ShelfScanner is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising programme designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. Our Amazon Associate tag is shelfscanne09-20. Amazon and the Amazon logo are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates.
  • Bookshop.org: ShelfScanner participates in the Bookshop.org affiliate programme (ref: shelfscanner). Bookshop.org is an online bookstore that financially supports independent bookshops. A portion of every Bookshop.org sale goes to independent bookshops across the USA.

Book recommendations displayed in ShelfScanner are generated based on the books detected on your shelf or curated by our editorial team. Affiliate commission rates do not influence which books we recommend. We recommend books we genuinely believe our users will find valuable.

This disclosure is made in accordance with the United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) guidelines on endorsements and testimonials (16 CFR Part 255).

3. No professional advice

The content on ShelfScanner — including book recommendations, collection summaries, estimated shelf values, and any AI-generated insights — is provided for informational and entertainment purposes only. It does not constitute:

  • Financial, investment, or insurance advice
  • Legal advice or legal services
  • Professional library or archival services
  • Appraisal or valuation services for rare or collectible books

If you need professional book appraisal (e.g., for estate purposes, rare book sales, or insurance), please consult a qualified rare book specialist or certified appraiser.

4. Third-party content and links

ShelfScanner may contain links to third-party websites, including Amazon, Bookshop.org, AbeBooks, and others. These links are provided for your convenience. We do not endorse, control, or take responsibility for the content, accuracy, privacy practices, or availability of any third-party website.

Book cover images, metadata (titles, authors, descriptions), and pricing information displayed in ShelfScanner are sourced from third-party APIs and may not always be up to date or accurate. We make no warranties regarding the completeness or accuracy of third-party data displayed within the Service.

5. Intellectual property of third parties

Book titles, author names, cover designs, and publisher information displayed in ShelfScanner are the intellectual property of their respective owners. Their display within ShelfScanner is incidental to the core book identification function and does not constitute an endorsement of ShelfScanner by those publishers or authors, nor does it imply any commercial relationship with them.

If you are a copyright holder and believe your intellectual property is being displayed inappropriately, please contact us at marismacabuhay@metathriving2dmax.site with the subject line "IP / Copyright Concern."

6. Beta product disclaimer

ShelfScanner is currently in private beta. This means the software is actively under development and may:

  • Contain bugs, errors, or unfinished features
  • Be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance or unexpected outages
  • Change significantly between versions, including changes to features, pricing, and availability
  • Have data loss risks (your scanned library is saved locally in your browser and may be lost if you clear browser data)

We encourage you to export or manually back up your book list if it is important to you. We accept no liability for data loss arising from use of the beta Service.

7. "As is" and liability limitation

THE SERVICE AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, MUSELAB / METATHRIVING2DMAX DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Service, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

This disclaimer is subject to and should be read alongside our full Terms of Service.
