Terms of Service — ShelfScanner

Terms of Service

Effective date: 30 May 2026  ·  Last updated: 30 May 2026

Short version: ShelfScanner is a free beta tool. Use it honestly, don't abuse it, and understand that it's a work in progress. Affiliate links in the app may earn us a small commission — at no cost to you.

1. Acceptance of terms

By accessing or using ShelfScanner at metathriving2dmax.site/shelfscanner ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

These Terms apply to all visitors, waitlist members, beta testers, and users of the Service.

2. About the Service

ShelfScanner is an AI-powered book digitisation tool that reads book spines from video or photos and returns a list of detected titles and authors. The Service is currently in private beta and is provided free of charge during this period.

ShelfScanner is a product of MuseLab, operating as MetaThriving2dMax, Ticao Island, Bicol, Philippines.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age to use the Service. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this age requirement. If you are under 18, you represent that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.

4. Your use of the Service

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to:

  • Use the Service in any way that violates applicable local, national, or international laws or regulations.
  • Submit false, misleading, or fraudulent information to the waitlist form.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise derive the source code of any component of the Service.
  • Attempt to probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service or any related system or network, or breach any security or authentication measures.
  • Use any automated means (bots, scrapers, crawlers) to access the Service in a way that exceeds normal human usage.
  • Transmit any viruses, malware, or other harmful code through the Service.
  • Use the Service to scan or process images of books or materials to which you do not have legal access.

5. Beta service disclaimer

Important: ShelfScanner is a beta product. It may contain bugs, produce inaccurate results, or be unavailable at times. AI-generated book identifications are best-effort and may contain errors. Always verify important book data independently.

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (or any feature of it) at any time, with or without notice. We will not be liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the Service.

6. Accuracy of AI-generated results

ShelfScanner uses artificial intelligence to identify book titles and authors from images. The AI may:

  • Misread partially visible, blurred, or angled spines.
  • Fail to detect books that are present.
  • Occasionally return results that appear plausible but are not accurate ("hallucinations").

We are continuously improving accuracy, but you should not rely on ShelfScanner as the sole record of your book collection for legal, insurance, archival, or other critical purposes. We accept no liability for decisions made based on AI-generated output from the Service.

7. Affiliate disclosure

ShelfScanner participates in affiliate programmes. When you click certain links and make a purchase, we may earn a commission:

  • Amazon Associates — as an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases made through our Amazon links (Associate tag: shelfscanne09-20).
  • Bookshop.org — we earn a commission on purchases made through our Bookshop.org links (affiliate ref: shelfscanner). A portion of every Bookshop.org sale also supports independent bookshops.

Affiliate commissions do not increase the price you pay. Our book recommendations are made independently of commission rates and reflect genuine editorial judgment.

8. Intellectual property

The ShelfScanner name, logo, design, copy, code, and all other original content on the Service are the intellectual property of MuseLab / MetaThriving2dMax, protected under applicable copyright and trademark laws.

You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the Service without our prior written consent, except as expressly permitted by these Terms.

Your data: You retain full ownership of any content you submit (e.g., video files, photos of your shelves). By submitting content to the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to process that content solely to provide the Service to you. We do not store your video or image files after processing.

9. Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. By using the Service, you consent to the data practices described in our Privacy Policy.

10. Third-party links and services

The Service contains links to third-party websites and services (including Amazon, Bookshop.org, and others). These links are provided for your convenience. We have no control over the content, privacy policies, or practices of those third-party sites and accept no responsibility for them. We encourage you to review the terms and privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit.

11. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that: (a) the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free; (b) any results obtained from the use of the Service will be accurate or reliable; or (c) any errors in the Service will be corrected.

12. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, MUSELAB / METATHRIVING2DMAX AND ITS OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, PARTNERS, AND AFFILIATES SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED PHP 1,000 (ONE THOUSAND PHILIPPINE PESOS).

13. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless MuseLab / MetaThriving2dMax and its officers, employees, and agents from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your violation of these Terms or your use of the Service.

14. Governing law and dispute resolution

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of the Philippines, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation first. If negotiation fails, disputes shall be submitted to the appropriate courts of Masbate, Philippines.

15. Changes to these Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be communicated by email to waitlist members and registered users. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
